The Will County Crime Scene Investigation Unit is a part of the Special Operations Division. The Crime Scene Investigation Unit consists of: Evidence Coordinator, Property Manager, (7) Crime Scene Investigators and a Sergeant. The members of the CSI Unit process crime scenes, collect, evaluate, photograph and preserve all items of evidence that is pertinent to an investigation at a crime scene. The CSI Unit utilizes the Northeastern Illinois Regional Crime Lab and is responsible for submitting/receiving evidence from the lab.
As of January 1st 2018 the CSI Unit currently maintains approximately 52,132 pieces of evidence at the Will County Public Safety Complex Evidence Vault. The CSI Unit is also responsible for the return of property to the rightful owner’s as well inked fingerprints for background checks. The cost of fingerprinting is $10.00 per card. Property return and fingerprints are available by appointment, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00pm. Please contact the CSI Unit for further details 815-727-4736.
