EAST TOWNSHIPS
11/16 Location: E. Indiana and S. Stoney Island Beecher
Summary: Mark R. Evely, age 54, of Beecher, lost his life after he lost control of his vehicle and struck a utility pole. The accident occurred on Indiana Avenue, one half mile west of Stoney Island. Evely was unconscious on the scene. He was transported to Franciscan Health Hospital in Dyer, IN by Beecher Fire personnel where he was pronounced deceased.
Location: s. Rt. 394 and W. Elms Court Lane Crete
Summary: Tiana Elias, age 23, of Monee was cited for speeding, driving with suspended registration, and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
Location: W. Monee-Manhattan Road and S. Ridgeland Monee
Summary: Martell Robinson, age 20, of Country Club Hills was cited for expired registration, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and driving while license suspended.
11/17 Location: 26000 block of S. Sandy Lane Monee
Summary: Person/s unknown stole eleven assorted truck tires from the bed of a pickup truck.
Location: 5600 block of W. Laurel Lane Monee
Summary: Person/s unknown stole an unlocked 2021 Ford F150 from the driveway of a residence.
While deputies were still on scene taking the report, they were notified that Oak Forest Police had located the vehicle unoccupied outside a building at 163rd and Pulaski.
11/21 Location: S. Rt. 394 and E. Exchange Crete
Summary: Jeremy Popp, age 26, of Steger was cited for aggravated speeding.
WEST TOWNSHIPS
11/18 Location: 17201 S. Lily Cache Road Van Horn Woods Plainfield
Summary: 29-year-old male stated that around 5pm, while sitting in the shelter area of the park, an unknown white male approached him and asked for a cigarette. When the victim denied the man, the man pulled out a pocketknife and told the victim to give him everything he had. The offender removed $60 from the victims’ pockets and took off in a red 4-door sedan.
NEW LENOX AND FRANKFORT
11/16 Location: 22000 block of S. Howell Drive New Lenox
Summary: Victim stated while sitting inside he heard a cutting noise outside. The victim went to investigate where he observed an unknown male/black jumping into a silver Cadillac 4-door and speed off. The victim then realized the offender had cut his catalytic converter from his vehicle.
LOCKPORT
11/16 Location: S. Weber and Caton Farm Road
Summary: John L. Stamps, age 54, of Joliet was cited for no valid driver’s license and expired registration.
11/18 Location: 100 block of Riverview
Summary: Person/s unknown stole a 2019 Chevy Malibu while it was parked along the roadway. While deputies were reporting the stolen vehicle to dispatch, dispatchers found that the vehicle had been abandoned in Joliet after being involved in a hit and run accident on Cass Street.
JOLIET
11/15 Location: Bradford Road
Summary: An unknown male/black subject was observed stealing a 2021 Kia Forte from the parking lot of an apartment complex around 7:15pm. The offender broke a window in order to gain entry.
11/17 Location: Marcella Avenue
Summary: A female victim reported to deputies that on 11/1/22 she received a text from an unknown number advertising an opportunity to make money by having a vinyl wrap sign placed on her vehicle to advertise for $600 a week. The victim clicked on the link and filled out a form. On 11/4/22 she received a text message from a man who asked for additional personal information. The victim was sent a check via FedEx for $3650.00 for one weeks pay and the remainder to be paid to the company to apply to vinyl decal. The name on the check was Pine Tree Golf Club Inc., with an address in Boynton Beach, Florida. The victim deposited the check in her account, withdrew $1,000, per instructions, and gave it to a man who arrived at her home to collect it. Within the next few days, she was advised from her bank that the check was fraudulent and had bounced. She then realized she had been scammed.
11/18 Location: 95 S. Chicago St. Adult Detention Facility
Summary: Denziel Banks, age 26, of Chicago was charged with aggravated battery.
11/21 Location: S. Briggs and New Lenox Road
Summary: Mackenzie Applequist, age 24, of Manhattan was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and driving while license suspended.
SOUTH TOWNSHIPS
11/17 Location: S. Rt. 53 and W. Hoff Road Jackson
Summary: Ray Newcomb, age 46, of Kankakee was cited for speeding and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
11/18 Location: S. Rt. 53 and E. Mississippi Jackson
Summary: Erick Mateos-Aviles, age 39, of Kankakee was cited for aggravated speeding.
Location: S. Rt. 53 and S. Chicago St. Jackson
Summary: Stephen Shumate Jr., age 31, of Chicago Heights was cited for driving while license suspended, expired registration and disobeying a stop sign.
HOMER GLEN
11/16 Location: 14853 S. Founders Xing Pepe’s Mexican Restaurant
Summary: Pamela Britt, age 72, of Homer Glen was cited with theft after she was upset that her food did not taste good and was poorly made and refused to pay her bill. Management remade the food; Britt ate it all and again refused to pay for the meal.
11/18 Location: 15551 W. 143rd St. Speedway
Summary: While lottery employees were performing an on-site audit, a box containing five books of lottery tickets was found to be missing. Upon review of video surveillance, it was observed that a male black subject had entered the store, walked near the counter and stole the five books of tickets.
11/19 Location: 14000 block of W. James Lane
Summary: Victim stated that he received a text from who he believed to be his bank, regarding a hold for a purchase made in California. The text was then followed by a phone call from who he believed to be an employee of his bank. The victim was asked to verify his home address and other personal information. He was then sent a verification code through text. Once the victim provided the verification code and his pin number, a large amount of his money was transferred out of his account via Zelle. The victim contacted his bank and they advised that it was fraud.
