Additional Fetal Remains Discovered
On 10/09/2019, at approximately 10:00 AM, members of the Will County Sheriff’s Office discovered additional fetal remains associated to the Dr. Ulrich Klopfer Investigation. Detectives with the Will County Sheriff’s Office conducted a search of numerous vehicles owned by Dr. Ulrich Klopfer in Dolton, Illinois. The search conducted was done with the assistance and cooperation of the Klopfer family.
While investigating the 2,246 fetal remains originally discovered on the Klopfer family property, in Unincorporated Crete Township, the Will County Sheriff’s Office was made aware of additional properties either owned or rented by Dr. Ulrich Klopfer.
The Will County Sheriff’s Office was made aware that numerous vehicles and possibly other personal property owned by Dr. Klopfer were stored in an outdoor gated lot of a business located in Dolton, Illinois. Upon learning this information, members of the Will County Sheriff’s Office made contact with the business owner in order to ascertain what type of property was stored in this lot.
The information received by detectives indicated that the only property stored in this lot were vehicles. There was no indication that additional personal property was either stored or visible inside of the vehicles that would have contained additional fetal remains. The vehicles stored on the property have been stored at this location for over six years.
Arrangements were made with the property owner, the Klopfer family, and the Will County Sheriff’s Office to conduct a thorough search of the vehicles at a later date, once vehicle keys could be located by the Klopfer family.
A total of eight cars belonging to Dr. Ulrich Klopfer were located on the property. In one of the vehicle’s trunk compartments, were five plastic bags and one box discovered that contained numerous medically preserved fetal remains.
The remains recovered were preserved, packaged, and marked similarly to the previous fetal remains discovered at the Klopfer residence on 09/12/2019. All of the items and information observed by detectives and crime scene investigators today, coincide with the previously known information that the fetal remains were from the time period of 2000-2002 when Dr. Klopfer was performing abortions in the State of Indiana.
It is believed that less than 100 fetal remains were recovered on this date, pending a more thorough examination of the contents and records. The Will County Sheriff’s Office will continue to work with the State of Indiana and the Indiana Attorney General’s Office to bring this case to a conclusion.
