WILL COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE - SNOW FALL ASSISTS DEPUTIES IN LOCATING/ARRESTING TWO IN MULTIPLE BURGLARIES

On 2/15/16 at 4:25am, Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to Partridge Lane in Beecher after a call came in regarding a potential burglary.  Upon arrival deputies spoke with a Crete Township Highway Department snow plow driver who stated that while plowing snow on Goodenow Road he observed a subject get out of a Pontiac Grand Prix and run north into Pheasant Lake Estates. He also observed two sets of fresh footprints traveling along the rear property lines of the homes on Cardinal Drive and while plowing west on Goodenow he observed a pile of tools laying in the snow alongside the road.

Sheriff’s deputies searched the area and began following the tracks heading north from Goodenow.  As they continued following the footprints they located two subjects hiding in the brush near the field east of Partridge Lane.  When the subjects realizing they were spotted they gave up and were taken into custody without incident.

Dalton L. Sparks, age 23, of 946 W. Arlington Lane in Crete was charged with nine counts of burglary and nine counts of possession of stolen property.  Arthur D. Mendez, age 19, of 5109 147th Street in Midlothian was charged with nine counts of burglary, nine counts of possession of stolen property, and one count of unlawful use of a weapon (brass knuckles).

Sheriff’s deputies canvassed the neighborhood and after following the offender’s footprints in and out of detached garages, deputies filed nine burglary reports from residents.  On the 100 block of Partridge Lane two residents reported that offenders entered their detached garages and rifled through unlocked vehicles.  Seven residents on the 100 block of Cardinal Drive reported that offenders entered their garages and went through cabinets and vehicles.  Items stolen included several drills and saws, a GPS, electric screwdriver, jewelry box, fishing poles, and a hunting bow. Most items were discovered hidden in numerous locations throughout the neighborhood and returned to their respective owners.  All garages and vehicles burglarized were unlocked at time of incident.  –end-
