The Crime Scene Investigations Unit consists of a staff of ten, one Sergeant, one Evidence Vault Manager, one Administrative Coordinator and seven Field Technicians. The Unit handles a wide variety of service calls using the most advanced equipment available to Forensic Experts. The unit also employs a part-time Finger Print Examiner who operates our AFIS system, which accesses the State of Illinois fingerprint database.
The Will County Sheriff’s Department is a member of the Northeastern Illinois Crime Lab who assists us in analyzing collected evidence in a timely manner. Most members of the Crime Scene Unit also serve as Investigators for the Will / Grundy Major Crimes Task Force. The members of the unit are accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
During 2013, approximately 6,693 items were entered into evidence. This figure represents a decrease of 251 items (3.6%) from 2012.
