The Support Services Bureau provides staff support to the entire Sheriff's Office concerning budgeting / payroll. They also provide long range planning, resource procurement and allocation, training, facility and vehicle maintenance, and management information systems.

Plans and Training

The Sheriff's Office provides training to approximately 350 to 500 police officers and correctional personnel each year. The Sheriff's Office currently trains and utilizes personnel, all divisions, for instructors. The training unit has developed a use of force training that is second to none, nationally, involving simulated scenarios, building searches, domestic responses, vehicle ambushes, fire arm tactics, and low and high threat calls for service, are taught and critiqued.

Fleet Maintenance

The fleet maintenance unit provides preventive maintenance and emergency vehicle repair for sheriff's vehicles, as well as vehicles from other county agencies. These services are delivered in a 5 bay service garage, which is staffed with highly trained and qualified equipment mechanics. Unit personnel, supported by the latest automotive diagnostic equipment, are capable of working on engine, brake, transmission, suspension and front-end components.

Mechanical and Custodial

The mechanical and custodial unit provides preventive, routine and emergency maintenance, as well as custodial services for all sheriff's buildings. It is staffed by skilled personnel who are skilled in the carpentry, plumbing, electrical and heating/air conditioning trades.

Payroll and Budget

The payroll and budget unit of the Sheriff's Office is responsible for the administration of the Sheriff's corporate budget, as well as all restricted funds and grants. This unit processes all commodities, contractual and capital outlay purchases. In addition, the Payroll and Budgeting unit maintains the attendance records for the Sheriff's (650) employees, processes the bi-weekly payroll and maintains the monthly work schedule, as well as processing and maintaining all workmen's comp files.
