On Monday October 3, 2016 at approximately 8:00p.m. someone posted a thread on Instagram with a picture of Lincolnway Central High School stating “looks like a good school to kidnap and kill. Be prepared for us. #lwc #lincolnwaycentral #clowns #aintclowninaround #thisfriday”. The Will County Sheriff’s Office was notified of this post Monday night and began looking into the matter. Lincolnway School Dist. Officials were notified as well as the School Resource Officer.
On Tuesday morning, detectives with the Will County Sheriff’s Office were able to identify the subscriber of the Instagram account where the post was made from. The offender was a 14 year old male juvenile and was a student at Lincolnway Central H.S. The offender along with his mother were brought to the Will County Sheriff’s Office Investigation Division where the offender was cooperative. The offender made statements that he had heard rumors about clowns being spotted on the trails, and with everything that has been going around about clowns recently, he did this as a joke. He did not think that anyone would take this seriously. The offender did state that he did not intend on causing harm to anyone. There are no indications that this person has been the subject of any prior discipline. The offender was released to his mother pending further review by the Will County States Attorney's Office. The offender is also facing discipline from the school district.
The Will County Sheriff’s Office along with the school district takes these types of incidents very serious. People need to understand the consequences of their actions especially when it involves threats made to a school. Unfortunately in today’s day and age, things like this cannot be taken lightly.
