Motorcycle Unit

The Will County Sheriff's Office has a new motorcycle unit to enhance the Enforcement Division. Four new Harley Davidson 1000cc Motorcycles, designed for use by law enforcement officers, have been outfitted.

Four Sheriff's Office Deputies have completed a rigorous two-week training program, conducted by the Northwestern University Traffic Institute and Harley Davidson, Inc., certifying their competency in operation of the motorcycles. Funds for the purchase of the motorcycles, equipment, and training, were obtained from fines collected through an on-going overweight truck enforcement effort.

The Motorcycle Unit, a seasonal specialized unit of the Traffic Division, will be flexible in its tasks. The primary function of the Motorcycle Unit is traffic enforcement and traffic control. The unit will be utilized at large public events or concerts. Citizen's complaints regarding an excessive number of speeding autos or other dangerous vehicular situations will be investigated by motorcycle deputies. D.U.I. checkpoints, ceremonial events, or parades are additional duties assigned to the Motorcycle Unit.
