IWIN is a wireless wide area data network using cellular digital
packet data (CDPD) technology to provide real-time, full duplex mobile
connectivity to its users. IWIN is a result of a unique partnership
between the State of Illinois, Verizon Wireless, and SCA, A Motorola
Company (SCA), to develop a statewide wireless data network that can
be used by state as well as local government. IWIN is quickly
becoming one of the largest public safety mobile data networks in the
country.
IWIN is currently in use by about 45 Will County Sheriff Patrol
Deputies. It provides mobile access to LEADS (Law Enforcement Agencies
Data System), NCIC (National Crime Information Center), Secretary of
State and other agency databases from virtually anywhere in Illinois.
GPS Mapping is another advantage of the system.
