My
name is Paul Kaupas, I have been a law enforcement officer for 33 years
with the last 30 years of my career serving on the Will County Sheriff's
Office.
My
administration will work with the community in a problem solving partnership
and strive for the continuous improvement of the programs within the
Sheriff's Office, and to maintain a safe and peaceful environment for
all residents of Will County. Public safety has been, and will always
be my primary concern.
I
have attended Northwestern University's Staff and Command and earned
a Bachelor's Degree from Governor's State University. In my career with
the Sheriff's Office, I have worked, and been a Supervisor in nearly
every area of law enforcement, including duty in the Jail, Civil Process,
Warrants, Patrol, Narcotics, Gang Enforcement, Special Operations Group
and Administration.
I
served three years of active duty in the United States Marine Corps,
and I am a decorated Vietnam Combat Veteran. I am a member of the New
Lenox VFW and American Legion. One of my proudest accomplishments was
in 1995, with the creation and implementation of the Will County Sheriff's
Gang Suppression Unit. Since its inception, many area Police Departments
now contribute manpower to the Unit. This Unit specializes in suppressing
gang activity and has been responsible for hundreds of arrests and the
seizure of voluminous amounts of narcotics and weapons. The Gang Unit
is now at the forefront of an awareness campaign on club drugs, educating
both adults and children on its' dangers.
I
have been married to Barbara for 32 years and have two married daughters,
JoEllen and Jana, with three granddaughters. We have resided in New
Lenox Township since 1976.
